I’ve had this Canon 20D forever. It has made some awesome wedding and portrait photographs, but is has pretty much sat in a camera bag for the past couple of years and really hasn’t been used much. It works perfectly and is an excellent digital camera. I was going through some gear and figuring out if I should eBay some stuff, when it occurred to me what this camera would mean to someone if I just GAVE it to them. I don’t really need the money from it, I don’t need the camera as a backup (I’ve got several), I don’t need it for a travel camera, I just don’t need the thing and I WANT IT TO BE USED to make photographs. So, I’m giving it away! You heard right, I am giving it away!
This camera might be the start of the next brilliant photojournalist, it might photograph the lives of missionaries abroad, it might be packed in a soldier’s bag on the front lines of freedom, it may end up in the hands of a child at a local art collective. Wherever it ends up, I want it to be used. I want someone to feel the same awesome feelings I do when I see the awesome photograph that was made.

What I’m giving:
-Canon 20D Digital SLR Camera
-Canon 50mm 1.8 lens
-CF memory card
-all discs, manuals, extra battery

How I’m going to give it away:
-For the next week, I’m taking ideas. From starving artists, missionaries, children, students, photo classes, farmers and the homeless…find someone you think is worthy of this camera and would put it to good use. To nominate them, simply comment below and tell us who you think we should give it to. On 2.18.10 I will pick the top 5 people/causes and then we’ll have a week of voting. The winner will be announced on 3.1.10 when I get home from a Mexico wedding.

After weeks of fog and rain in the valley, I was expecting cold weather and possible rain on Elissha and Manoah’s winter wedding. When I checked the forecast, it showed sun and I was so stoked to drive into the mountains to Oakhurst to find the sun shining and an awesome couple ready to start their future.
Elissha’s brother is Tim, an awesome wedding filmmaker and the guy who filmed the promo video on my site. When I first met with her and Manoah, she told me that she knew that she wanted me to be her wedding photographer before she was even engaged. I was pretty humbled to say the least. Manoah is a guy that can make anyone smile and he definitely made Elissha smile with the wedding ring that he custom designed for her (he is a jeweler in Bend, OR).
It definitely felt more like a day with friends than work (pretty typical) while photographing the wedding. The light we had to work with for portraits at Sierra Meadows Country Club in Ahwahnee was just amazing and the landscape there is awesome. It was also a treat to work with Carol of Belissimo Brides, who is an incredible makeup artist out of Oakhurst, CA.
On a side note: does everyone like the new format of the blog images? It reads more like a storyboard which I like, but the images are smaller which is a drawback. What do you think? Feel free to leave a comment below in the comment space.

Looking back on 2009, I’m moved by the many moments that were captured by my camera lens. I thoroughly enjoy looking back at the photographs I’ve created this year.
My main goal as a photographer and business person this past year was to make photographs in accordance with my own personal vision and do so consistency. I wanted to have a style that was recognizable to people and a brand with feeling. Without sounding arrogant, I think I’ve hot my goals. I believe the photos I created from my first wedding in 2009 until my final wedding of the year were consistent to my vision. Did I get better with the camera? Probably. Did I acquire new gear? Yes. Do I still want to improve as an artist? Definitely. But my point is that I feel my work has a consistency that couples know to expect when they hire me for their most important day.
My goals for 2010 are probably more business related, but I want to photograph with the same consistency as I did in 2009. Some things I’d like to try in 2010: phtograph bridal portraits on a white seamless, photograph with less flash (even in dark receptions), do more personal work and work on some photo books, lots of videos for the blog!
I put together a small slideshow with a few weddings and engagement sessions that I had in a folder (I could add so much more). So here are a few of my favorite sets from the year. Turn up the music, sit back and enjoy.

I’m so sorry for the lack of blogging as of late, but this is the peak of the season and I’m slammed! But that is a good thing. Slowly, but surely I am catching up and will have some awesome new weddings to blog soon.
This blog post is to announce a new facet of Scott Andrew Studio and it is something I’m pretty stoked to share with everyone. I will be opening a new studio location in a sweet 1800 sf storefront in Linden! The space is beautiful and should be ready for me to move in by December 1st. Linden is a quiet little farming/commuter community about 10 miles east of Stockton. I’ve looked at so many locations for a studio in Stockton, Lodi and even a couple in San Francisco just to meet wedding clients at…but I absolutely fell in love with the small town feel of Linden. I can’t wait to meet all the new people out there and bring something fresh to an awesome community.
There will definitely be a lot of photographs coming to the blog soon to share how the new studio is taking shape, so stay tuned. I will still be making trips to meet select wedding clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, but it is going to be nice to have a great meeting/workspace to call home close to my house. Thanks for celebrating the great news with me, now back to the cave to work on wedding photographs. Enjoy.

I absolutely loved this wedding and I can’t believe that they almost didn’t have a wedding photographer. I received a call on the Wednesday before the wedding and was informed that their photographer wasn’t going to be able to shoot their wedding. When I first spoke with Jaime I could tell the concern in her voice and was so stoked to be able to help them out. When I came out, I was treated like a hero.
The wedding was held at Aric’s parents ranch style home in the foothills of Oakdale, CA and we were blessed with a stunning sunset. I’m posting a ton of detail photos because I love the feel that the details of this wedding give the viewer. I hope Jaime and Aric have an awesome time in Fiji and I can’t wait for them to see the rest of their photographs. I’ll come save the day any time, if it turns out like this. As soon as I have the details on the vendors involved I will make sure to list them here. Enjoy.
