Ashley+Joey | Real

April 22, 2010

You don’t see a lot of props in my work. You don’t see a lot of “contrived situations”. I am a believer in real love, tangible, believable…true love. The connection is everything. If you look into the eyes of the people I photograph, I want you to see someone who is comfortable, in love and full of emotion. It is my belief that there should be a certainty to the images that a photographer makes that goes beyond the scene, the props, the skin and takes the viewer to a place where they “feel” something.
Here are Ashley and Joey. They’re indelibly in love and I love that about them. I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Modesto, CA and reception at Two Guy’s in Turlock, CA. Enjoy. 3

We had a tremendous meeting last month at the studio with almost 30 photographers from Northern California in attendance. It was awesome. I’m pleased to announce that my good friend and one of my mentors, Sam Hassas from San Jose, CA will be joining us and speaking at the next Central Valley Wedding Photographers’ Get Together. We’re open to anybody who wants to come out, learn, grow and enjoy some good socializing. Please email scott (at) scottandrewstudio.com to RSVP.

I’ll never forget the first time I talked to Danielle on the telephone about their wedding. Within a minute or so, I felt like I was chatting with an old friend and I knew that I *had* to photograph their weddings. We weren’t sure if we would be able to fit an engagement session in before their wedding in early May, but I’m glad I was able to make it down to the Laguna Beach, CA area to photograph these two.
Danielle and Kris are getting married in Lake Tahoe, CA at Chinquapin. They’re both really into snowboarding and Danielle has a cool, artsy job like me! I’m always humbled when working with other photographers, artists, musicians, creative directors, designers and the like. It means a lot to me that they trust and believe in my vision. Needless to say, these two are in love and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in Tahoe. Enjoy.

Lisa and Scott are the ideal clients. Lisa contacted about a year before their wedding, Scott is named Scott, we met on Union St. in San Francisco, CA, they’re really cool, they were still ironing their clothes when I showed up for the e-session (which lets me know they’re human like me), Lisa is a teacher, Scott does something cool in consulting and helping people make money, Scott has radical skis that I’m envious of, Lisa makes funny faces at Scott all the time and I think I laughed 93% of the engagement session.
It is truly a delight to be working with such splendid people. Their wedding will be at a quaint church in Tahoe City, CA and reception at the brand new Ritz Carlton Highlands at Northstar Lake Tahoe in Truckee, CA. I can’t wait.
We started photographing at Fort Point in San Francisco, CA under the Golden Gate Bridge and then headed over to Chrissy Field and the Presidio. One of the spots they chose is where Scott actually proposed while they were out on a jog. It was really special to photograph while they both shared the story (it is always fun to hear *both* versions). The reactions were priceless. June is going to be a little more beautiful in Lake Tahoe, CA due to these too. Here are some frames from the day. Enjoy.

I’ve had the distinct privilege of photographing at many beautiful locations throughout Northern California and beyond, but none will ever top the weddings I’ve photographed at Yosemite National Park, CA. Rob Her of Enlighten Images had me along for this one last summer and I truly enjoyed myself. The wedding ceremony was held on the meadow outside of the Awahnee Lodge in the Yosemite Valley. With views of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls and El Capitan, it is truly a breathtaking place to photograph a wedding. Here is a storyboard that I put together from Jeff and Jayne’s wedding. Thanks Rob for having me out. Enjoy.
