Honduras | Con Todo mi Corazon

February 28, 2011

Words escape me right now. The photographs are too moving to me to delve into a lengthy dissertation on how impacting a humanitarian trip like this can be to someone. In the next few months, as things develop, I’ll be sharing more about how you can possibly get involved with the group/charity, Operation Ayuda. Needless to say, I was truly impacted by the beauty of the people and the land. My hat is off to people like Marc and Lori Schreckheise who have devoted their lives to serving the people of Honduras, they’re truly doing an amazingly selfless work. Also, my friend Myles Young who organized this trip and is the visionary behind a lot of things that are still to come. Awesome, inspiring people. Here are some images to enjoy.

I do have to offer a huge “thank you” to my good friend Scott at the Kodak company for donating the film for this trip. Everything you see here in color was captured on the beautiful new Portra 400, this film is just amazing. The black and white photographs are all on Kodak TriX, a film that has just never let me down. Thank you so much for making it all possible. Secondly, thank you so much to Bill and Brian at Richard Photo Lab in Hollywood, CA for their generosity in sponsoring the processing/scanning of my film. I simply would not be able to do what I do and my pictures wouldn’t look like they look if it wasn’t for the best lab in the world. Thank you, thank you! I’m super excited to see what happens next with this group and the continued success in touching lives in Honduras.

As a lot of you know, I’m in Honduras photographing a humanitarian mission and absolutely falling in love with this beautiful country. I wish I had time right now to tell all of what is going on down here but stay tuned. I’m shooting primarily film while I’m here (thank you Kodak and Richard Photo Lab for sponsoring the trip) but I’ve been doing some video and a few photographs on my digital camera. Here are a couple of quick snaps from the first day. Enjoy.

From Philly With Love

July 2, 2010

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, which you totally should, you’ll know that I have a new camera. I wanted a great travel camera that was easy to carry on my person when I was in the mood for street photography or creating fine art photographs in any condition. Two conditions, it had to be a film camera and it had to have stellar image quality. One camera that filled both of those prerequisites is the new Fuji GF670 Rangefinder 6×6/6×7 120 camera. I learned about the GF when Fuji first decided to release it at a tradeshow overseas several months ago and I had the chance to lay hands on one at the WPPI tradeshow in Las Vegas, NV. I was convinced that this was the right camera for me.
The image quality is absolutely amazing. I love being able to photograph in 6×6 or 6×7 with the same camera, simply by switching a lever in between loading rolls (although I’m really trying to express myself in 6×6 right now). Being a true rangefinder, there is no mirror/prism to slap around during the opening/closing of the shutter therefore the camera is virtually silent during actuation. Not only that, but I feel comfortable photographing down to 1/8th of a second, hand held. This camera is simply amazing and the artisan feel of fine art photography is more apparent in this camera than any other I’ve held (other than large format). I think my friend Jonathan Canlas and I are the only people I really know using this camera a this time, but that will probably be changing really soon. Enough about the camera, here is one photograph from Philadelphia, PA straight out of the camera. Details below, enjoy.
