Huntley Drew | Zeiss 50 1.4

September 15, 2010

Yes, I’m still infatuated with this lens. As Eden gets older, you’ll probably see more of Huntley on the blog. She’s not quite as stoked about being photographed as she used to be, girls…go figure. Huntley will probably get to that stage in a year or so, so I will relish that. The good news is that we just got a puppy (Badgley, photos coming soon) and so when all of my family refuses to be photographed, I’ll have a subject. Off to beautiful Kenwood, CA (Napa Valley Wine Country) for a beautiful, intimate wedding ceremony this weekend. I can’t wait. Enjoy.

Ashley+Isai

April 30, 2010

Ashley sent me the sweetest email a few days before the wedding about how happy she was that I would be photographing their wedding. It really touched me and she now has a special place in my heart. You might remember their awesome engagement session in San Francisco, CA a few months back and if you do, you know already that these two have tremendous style. Ashley is such a beautiful bride and so photogenic (thanks for making my job easy). Isai is so “well put together” and has all of the details of attire down. It was good to see a young guy that uses shoe trees and knows that wearing a custom suit on the wedding day is the only way to go(suit and shirting by R. Douglas Clothier).
Thank you so much for having me down and making me a part of your wedding. Let’s hang out soon. I hope you guys had fun in Ocho Rios, Jamaica! Enjoy.

Ashley+Joey | Real

April 22, 2010

You don’t see a lot of props in my work. You don’t see a lot of “contrived situations”. I am a believer in real love, tangible, believable…true love. The connection is everything. If you look into the eyes of the people I photograph, I want you to see someone who is comfortable, in love and full of emotion. It is my belief that there should be a certainty to the images that a photographer makes that goes beyond the scene, the props, the skin and takes the viewer to a place where they “feel” something.
Here are Ashley and Joey. They’re indelibly in love and I love that about them. I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Modesto, CA and reception at Two Guy’s in Turlock, CA. Enjoy. 3

I love having a close family, well most of the time anyway. Especially times like these. Cheryl’s sister, Crystal, has been carrying the bump around for around 9 months now and right on her exact due date, little Averie decided it was time to make her entrance known. I’m so stoked for Danny, Crystal and Ashlyn. They have a beautiful family and I couldn’t ask for better. I’m pretty sure I’m still the keeping my game tight and holding the crown for favorite uncle but we’ll have to wait a year or so until she can let everyone know that (or maybe we can bargain a little). Anyhow, here are a few of baby Averie’s first photo session. I think she enjoyed the sound of the shutter. Enjoy.

Her big cousin Eden.

Big sister helping with feeding time.

I got a chance to hold Averie for a little bit, just enough to let the “baby bug” bite me a little bit.

I think Huntley is just stoked that he’s not the little cousin any longer.

::Disneyland 2008::

June 12, 2008

So the Shoemake family braved the sweltering heat, the crowds and rising cost of fuel to enjoy several days at the happiest place on earth: DISNEYLAND! It was a great trip (Eden and Huntley’s first time) and we have memories galore. I think that everybody should go to Disneyland at least once a year (just not when its 100 degrees). You really get to leave the world behind and have a good time!

This trip was extra special as my nana & papa and my dad & step mom were able to make it. Enjoy.
