Amy + Ben

September 28, 2010

Amy and Ben have more than their fair share of style. Couple that with the fact that Ben is big into skiing and I’ve fallen in love with them. We had a good time cruising around midtown Sacramento, CA for their engagement photos. I really can’t explain the connection between them, but it only took them a few seconds to forget that they were in front of a camera and they just made it happen.
These two are getting married next month at the Ferry Building in San Francisco, CA and I’m super excited about working with some of my favorite people from Alison Ulshoffer Events, R. Douglas Custom Clothier, Paula LeDuc Fine Catering, Nancy Liu Chin Florals, Lovespun Films and others. This wedding is going to be awesome. Enjoy.

Shan + Matt | Love is Real

September 17, 2010

Just in case you’ve been convinced otherwise, LOVE IS REAL! It is easy to become a cynic with the way the media hypes everything, reading about break-ups in the tabloids and hearing about bad relationships on the talkshows…but I will gladly say that love is real and can still be found. There is nothing more amazing than the connection shared by two people who truly love each other.
Shan and Matt are such people. Their love is palpable, real. You can see it in their photographs but I felt it long before the film was ever developed. I was stoked when Matt asked me about doing a session with them and when it actually materialized I was glad we did it. These two are from Denver, CO and I had a chance to show them around San Francisco, CA a bit while we photographed. Our stops included Cow Hollow, Fort Mason (some of the best views of the bridge) and the Presidio. A special thanks to La Boulange on Union St. (my favorite cafe in the city) for the amazing cafe au lait, macaroons and their kind clients who gave up a nice, picturesque table for us to use. I truly enjoyed myself and I’m happy to share this set with you all. By the way, Matt is an awesome wedding photographer in Denver, CO, check him out. Enjoy.

Lindsey + Jordan

September 9, 2010

I remember having four brides who wanted me to photograph their wedding on the same day…Lindsey won. I’m really happy that she did too, her and Jordan are awesome people. This young couple is doing it right: working hard, just bought their first home, loves their families, enjoying life, traveling. I’ll never forget one of the first things that Lindsey said to me was how much she enjoyed viewing the personal work that I post on the blog from time to time. She said that she could see herself having some of the prints on the walls. Yes, instantly my heart was won over.
We did a quick engagement session near my studio in Linden, CA just a few days before their wedding at Viaggio Winery in Acampo, CA (Lodi Wine Country). I was fortunate enough to have Tim from Infinite Design come out and do some video work during the shoot for a new promo video that will be on my revamped site. It was super fun hanging out with you two and I can’t wait to share more photos from your wedding day as well! Enjoy.

What to Wear? | Styled

August 19, 2010

The stores are already putting away the back-to-school items and here comes the Halloween merchandise. The local cafe is wiping the slate and chalking the words “pumpkin spice latte” on the board in anticipation of fall. Yes, where has the summer gone? Well, we still have a bit of it left so enjoy it! But if you’re planning on having your engagement photos done this fall, I’ve put together another “Styled” set for you to check out with some of the my favorite looks for the fall. If you’re planning a fall family portrait session, stay tuned for the Styled edition with some great looks for the family.
I’m a big fan of what Rugby has put out this fall and I love how prep style is making a big comeback in the mainstream (although some of us have been wearing it for years, yes I wore white chinos, an oxford and top-siders to my 8th grade graduation). The looks I’ve put together are versatile and layered, definitely something that you’ll feel comfortable wearing out to dinner after your engagement session. In my opinion, shoes and accessories are key. The lapel/tie pin for the gent is a nice modern touch and comes in a variety of colors from Linden Lovebirds on Etsy. The canvas and leather chain belt from Rugby is a throw back to equestrian style at the turn of the century, timeless. Nothing can ruin a well-played outfit faster than a pair of dingy, outdated shoes. Stick with the classics. The footwear I’ve chosen for both him and her looked great 20 years ago and looks just as good today. The outfits, cuts, tones, fit and textures you see are meticulously selected to maximize “the look” and keep a clean, coordinated palette for the best possibly photos. So here you go, enjoy!
