Brick + Mortar

May 24, 2010

I thought since I’ve been in here a few months already, it would be a good time to give everyone a little photo tour of my new studio in Linden, CA. When I’m not over in the San Francisco, CA area for photo shoots or meetings, I’m here almost everyday of the week and schedule meetings by appointment. While most people are going away from the “brick and mortar” business model, I believe that having a nicely designed meeting/workspace is still the best way for a photographer to conduct business. So far I’m 5 for 5 in booking wedding clients who I’ve met at the studio.
Linden, CA is probably a place that you haven’t heard of. If you’ll look on the next bag of cherries you buy, you’ll probably see “Linden” written on the side. We’re out here in the Walnut groves, cherry orchards and wine grapes. Linden is a small, country town about 15 minutes east of Stockton, CA. Life is slower out here, people smile more frequently, you’re on a first name basis at the local cafe and there is a good chance you’ll have to slow down on the highway for a tractor. That being said, with the extensive travel that I do for weddings, it is nice to come home to place where I feel connected to the community and where I truly enjoy my surroundings.
My studio is a storefront on Highway 26 in a brick building built in the 1920s. The floors are wood that has been stained grey, the ceilings are 12′ high, the exposed AC/heat duct adds some character to the openness. I do the majority of my non-shooting work here from 9-5. In the future I plan on hosting more get-togethers, photography workshops and wedding vendor workshops. There are some brilliant locations to photograph within a few miles of the studio and I plan on making good use (and already have) of every one of those.
So if you’re ever driving out Highway 26 or maybe passing through the Valley on your way to Sacramento or Lake Tahoe, give me a call (415-290-9231) and stop by to say hi. Enjoy.

One frame from Jacalyn + Eric’s San Francisco, CA engagement session at Fort Mason. I can’t wait to photograph these two in a few months at Viaggio Winery. Stay tuned for some more photographs from this session among others. Enjoy.

Snippet and Ink has long been one of my favorite wedding blogs and I always try to refer my brides their for inspiration. Kathryn keeps the style very consistent, relevant and super inspirational. I was pleased to see Rachel and Steven’s engagement session up on the blog this morning and thought I would share a link. You will find everything from real weddings, color palettes, detail inspiration, to the most beautiful shoes and dresses. Go enjoy it.

Last Sunday I photographed Danielle and Kris’ epic wedding at Chinquapin in Lake Tahoe, CA. One of the coolest things that we did on the wedding day (per request of Danielle who is super artsy as well) is we mixed in a few different photographic mediums. Huge thanks to my awesome second photographer for the day, Ingrid, who handled most of what we did on this end.
We shot several rolls of Holga, Fuji Instax (like Polaroid) and even some iPhone. The results are amazing and I’m really happy to let everyone know that this something available for their wedding day.
The Fuji Instax (wide format version) is amazing. The film has a true “Fuji look” to it and is very versatile. One of the things that couples can do on the wedding day is set up a hanging gallery with some of the Instax photos. You can even set up a photo booth for your friends with a fun backdrop and they can hang their favorites for everyone to see. The instant photos are a great way to relive the wedding day “on” the wedding day.
Here is a simple hanging gallery and we used the following items to create it:
-a ball of twine from Lowes ($5)
-mini wooden clothes pins, Target ($3)
-an old door, antique shop ($30)
If you’re interested in adding something like this to your wedding package or would like to learn more about Scott Andrew Studio please contact me via the website. Enjoy.
