Wedding Crazy Booth

June 8, 2009

Spanky and Jenna brought so much awesome to their wedding that we had to put together an impromptu Crazy Booth set up to document some of the madness. The Crazy Booth is a very basic setup with a studio light, usually some props and the most important element being crazy people who like to have a good time. Traditional photo booths at weddings are so, well, ummmm, TRADITIONAL! The crazy booth brings an edge of fun and spontaneity to the wedding
We’ve done the Booth at several weddings and everyone digs it. It is also an inexpensive alternative to rental photo booths (with cheap, grainy photos) that you can add on to your Scott Andrew Wedding Collection. I know that my work has a modern elegance to it, but sometimes you have to have a little fun.
Big thanks to my friend Kameron Olds (Shooting Gallery Photo) for manning the booth on this one! Enjoy the PG version.

I love to read and I love to read things that make sense. I saw a great article on my friend Becker’s blog (who I’ll be shooting with later this month) and thought I would share it with everyone as well. There are some great points in here and if you’re one of my current brides you’ll probably see a lot of the same things that I have in my Wedding Photography 101 handout. Make sure you take some time to read things like this in your planning process, it will help make the day of your dreams perfect. Now I gotta get out of here and go shoot a wedding. Enjoy.

Awesome Advice on Hiring a Wedding Photographer

Meghan and Ryan are such a sweet couple. Totally down to earth, totally sweet and totally in love. Meghan has such a natural beauty and a personality to match it, she is seriously one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. No joke. Ryan is the kind of guy that can hold his own when out with the boys, but beyond that you can see his deep love and care for Meghan. He is a true gentleman and you just don’t see too many of them around nowadays. They are a match made in heaven and I can’t wait for their wedding in July. By the way, Ryan has one of the raddest trucks I’ve ever seen. I must admit I had a little “bro-envy” when they pulled up.
We ended up shooting at Knight’s Ferry near their homes in Oakdale and Escalon. Knight’s Ferry is such a beautiful place to make photographs. There is an awesome covered bridge, cool wood buildings, old mill remnants, stone walls, tall grass and trees…basically a lot of different looks in one place. From there we snuck into a a super secret location for a few photos in the last bit of light. Enjoy.

We had a sweet room on the 28th floor of the Hyatt Grand Manchester in Downtown San Diego overlooking Coronado, the Bay on one side and Downtown San Diego, the Harbor and Point Loma. One night I walked down to the grocery store to by some breakfast snacks, Odwalla Superfood and some fresh fruit for the family and came home to everyone being asleep. The lights glowing in Downtown San Diego were fantastic, the skies were ever so dramatic and I knew I had to grab my camera and make a few photographs.
Here are a few that I really liked. The first one was shot with a fisheye lens and you can get a nice view of the downtown landscape and cloudy skies. The second one has a little tilt shift thrown in by one of my favorite new lenses. Trust me, none of the blur was done in Photoshop. All I do in post is color and sharpening (plus a little grain for a film photo look). I hope you enjoy.

I love to use my camera and make pictures, period. There isn’t much more I’d rather be doing than creating a visual document of something with the awesome tool called a camera. I’ve been privileged to travel this great state I live in and I’m on a mission to create photographs that document the beauty of the state in a different way. Will I ever publish a book? Maybe. How long will it take? Probably twenty years. What will make your photographs so much different than everyone else’s? They’re mine. Enjoy the awesome.

This was photographed while on vacation in La Jolla, CA. Such a beautiful gem on our Southern California coastline. A limited number of prints will be available of each photograph. Please email me at Scott@ScottAndrewStudio.com for more information about purchasing limited addition prints from this series.
